Is SodaPeak a Supplement or a Drug? What the Category Means for You

Quick answer

SodaPeak is a dietary supplement sold as 60-capsule bottles, not a drug. FDA does not approve supplements for safety or effectiveness before they are sold, and the company is responsible for safety and labeling. That puts more of the checking on you, which is why the label, the sources and your clinician matter.

The category01

What kind of product is SodaPeak?

SodaPeak is a dietary supplement: a capsule product with a Supplement Facts panel, not a medicine with a Drug Facts panel.

The bottle holds 60 capsules, the serving is 2 capsules and the panel names eight ingredients in one blend. The front says "SUPPORTS HEALTHY MUSCLE*". Those are the marks of a supplement label, and they place the product in a regulatory category with its own rules.

FDA regulates finished supplements and their ingredients under a framework separate from foods and drugs, set by a 1994 law. Companies must check safety and labeling before sale, and may not market adulterated or misbranded products. FDA acts after products are on the market (FDA, Dietary Supplements).

The rules02

What does FDA do, and not do, with supplements?

FDA does not approve dietary supplements for safety or effectiveness, or their labels, before they are sold.

Companies are responsible for meeting safety and labeling rules. FDA also says a product meant to treat, prevent or ease disease is regulated as a drug even when it is labeled a supplement (FDA 101: Dietary Supplements). That line is why a supplement's label speaks in structure and function terms and why this site makes no disease claims.

Claims03

What may a supplement label say?

It may describe a nutrient's role in the body's structure or function, with a notice that FDA has not evaluated the claim.

FDA's guidance says structure and function claims must carry the disclaimer that the statement has not been evaluated and that the product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Companies notify FDA within 30 days of marketing, and a notification is not FDA approval of the claim (FDA, Structure/Function Claims).

  1. SUPPORTS HEALTHY MUSCLE*

A structure/function line: the star leads to the FDA statement. No source linked here tests SodaPeak. Muscle responds to training on 2 or more days a week, protein and sleep, and the sources on this site say so. (FDA, Structure/Function Claims) (CDC, Adult Activity)

  2. Test Boost Proprietary Blend 1200mg

A blend name and one total. The panel prints no amount for any of the eight names, so the real split is unknown. The blend name is not a finding: no study tested this blend. (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR))

  3. ADVANCED FORMULA

A product description. It names no ingredient, amount, test or standard. (FDA 101: Dietary Supplements)

  4. *Daily Value Not Established

No Daily Value exists for these names, so the panel cannot show a percent of one. It is not a measure of how much to take. (FDA, Q&A on Dietary Supplements)

For buyers04

What does the category mean for a buyer?

It means you do part of the checking. The label, the seller and a clinician are your first three tools.

Read the panel, including what it does not print. SodaPeak's blend gives one total and no individual amounts, which the proprietary blend page explains. Ask who makes the product, and ask for a lab report. If you take medicines, show the full label to a pharmacist before the first capsule.

None of that is a verdict on the product. It is the ordinary care that any supplement deserves, and the supplement facts page reads the panel line by line.
