Tongkat Ali in SodaPeak: What the Evidence Shows and the Liver Notes
Tongkat ali is a Southeast Asian root, sold as a supplement for testosterone and athletic performance, and it holds line 2 of the SodaPeak blend, so it weighs at most 600 mg per two capsules. LiverTox reports mild rises in total testosterone in human studies, no link to better performance, and a possible rare cause of liver injury.

What it is01
What is tongkat ali in SodaPeak?
Tongkat ali, also called Long Jack, is the root of a Southeast Asian tree, Eurycoma longifolia. The SodaPeak panel lists it second, as "Tongkat Ali Powder (Eurycoma Longifolia Jack) Root".
LiverTox, the NIH liver-injury database, says it is sold in the United States as an over-the-counter supplement promoted for testosterone and athletic performance (NIDDK LiverTox, Tongkat Ali). That is the source of the "test boost" reputation, so the claim deserves a close look in the next section.
The label says powder, not extract. Powder means ground root, and the concentration inside a capsule can be low. LiverTox adds that extract purity and concentration are not standardized, so the same name can describe very different products.
| Name on the label | Tongkat Ali Powder (Eurycoma Longifolia Jack) Root |
|---|---|
| What it is | Root of a Southeast Asian tree, also called Long Jack |

| Strength of evidence | LiverTox: mild rises in total testosterone in human studies, not linked to better athletic performance; safety not established by a 2021 EFSA opinion |

| Main caution | LiverTox: a possible rare cause of liver injury (score D); extract purity and concentration are not standardized; long-term safety is not well documented. |

The research02
Does tongkat ali raise testosterone?
In human studies tongkat ali showed mild rises in total testosterone over weeks, with no change in free testosterone, and the rises were not linked to better athletic performance (NIDDK LiverTox, Tongkat Ali).
One trial in athletes found no performance effect. A 2021 opinion from the European Food Safety Authority, quoted by LiverTox, said safety has not been established under any condition of use. Those facts sit together: a small signal in a lab number, no payoff in performance, and an open safety question.
None of this tests SodaPeak. The label prints no amount of tongkat ali, so a reader cannot say whether a serving matches any study. This site makes no claim about hormone levels for this product.
Total testosterone counts all the hormone in blood, including the part bound to proteins. Free testosterone is the unbound part. A rise in total with no change in free is a smaller story than headlines suggest. Only a clinician can read either number.
Safety03
Can tongkat ali harm the liver?
LiverTox gives tongkat ali a likelihood score of D, meaning a possible rare cause of clinically apparent liver injury. It does not say the injury is common.
The one case it describes was a bodybuilder, and the entry notes that undisclosed steroid use is an alternative explanation. Side effects at usual doses are uncommon and include nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, headache and rash. Long-term safety is not well documented (NIDDK LiverTox, Tongkat Ali).
That is why the caution is plain: people with liver disease, and people who take medicines that stress the liver, should ask a clinician before any capsule that lists tongkat ali. FDA warns separately that bodybuilding products can hide steroid-like drugs and cause serious liver injury (FDA, Bodybuilding Products).
Yellow skin or eyes, dark or brown urine, belly pain, nausea or unusual weakness after any supplement: stop it and get care today. Keep taking prescribed medicine as directed.

See packsHow much04
How much tongkat ali is in SodaPeak?
The label does not say. It can hold at most 600 mg per two capsules by order, or 300 mg if the two capsules are equal and you take one.
LiverTox lists 100 to 400 mg a day as the traditional dose and notes many online products at 1,000 to 1,600 mg (NIDDK LiverTox, Tongkat Ali). The ceiling of 600 mg sits above the traditional range and below the common product range. The real amount could be much lower.
The bars show room, not content. The label can neither rule a studied amount in nor out, which is the same problem the proprietary blend page describes for all eight names.
FAQ06
SodaPeak questions people ask
What is tongkat ali good for?
It is sold for testosterone and athletic performance. LiverTox reports mild rises in total testosterone in human studies that were not linked to better performance, so the sale claim goes further than the research.
What is the usual tongkat ali dose?
LiverTox lists 100 to 400 mg a day as the traditional dose and notes online products often hold 1,000 to 1,600 mg. SodaPeak prints no amount for tongkat ali.
Is tongkat ali safe for the liver?
LiverTox rates it a possible rare cause of liver injury, score D. Long-term safety is not well documented. Stop and get care for yellow skin or eyes or dark urine.
What is Eurycoma longifolia?
It is the Latin name of the tree whose root is called tongkat ali or Long Jack. The SodaPeak label uses Eurycoma Longifolia Jack.
Why is tongkat ali second on the SodaPeak label?
Names in a blend are listed from heaviest to lightest, so it weighs at most half of the 1,200 mg total, 600 mg per two capsules, and no more than line 1.
Does tongkat ali show up on drug tests?
We found no source on that. If you are tested for sport, ask the testing body before taking any supplement, because contamination is a known risk.
