Stamina Supplements for Athletes: What NIH Says About Blends, Creatine and Protein
NIH's review of exercise supplements finds that most studies include only conditioned athletes and that the effects of multi-ingredient products cannot be known or predicted. It reports short-term strength gains with creatine and says protein supports muscle repair. SodaPeak's blend is none of those, and this site makes no athletic claim.

What NIH says01
What does NIH say about exercise supplements?
That evidence is limited, mostly from conditioned athletes, and weakest for blends.
The NIH review notes that more research is usually needed on efficacy and safety, that for multi-ingredient products one cannot know or predict the effects and safety of the combination, and that ingredient amounts vary widely (NIH ODS, Exercise supplements). It also reports that Tribulus terrestris, claimed to raise testosterone, showed no effect on strength, lean body mass or sex hormone levels.
Compare02
Which supplements have the best-described evidence?
Protein and creatine, per the same NIH review. A hidden-amount blend is not among them.
| Supplement | What NIH reports |
|---|---|
| Protein | Builds, maintains and repairs muscle; no safety concern up to about 2.0 g per kg body weight a day for athletes |
| Creatine | Short-term use often increased strength and sprint power; considered safe short term for healthy adults; causes water-retention weight gain |
| Multi-ingredient blends | Effects and safety cannot be known or predicted |
This is a report of the review, not advice. An athlete should speak to a clinician or dietitian about their own plan.
The risk03
What is the special risk for athletes?
Hidden banned or harmful ingredients.
The same review notes that some deer antler products were adulterated with a banned hormone (NIH ODS, Exercise supplements). FDA warns that bodybuilding products sold as supplements can contain steroids or steroid-like drugs (FDA, Bodybuilding Products). Athletes who are tested should treat a blend with hidden amounts and no lab report as a risk.
